Today I went for a quick walk around a local pond and saw a few small birds and nests. I'm not sure about the yellow one - I had thought of a yellow thornbill or yellow-rumped thornbill but it seems to have a distinct stripe through the eye and a small yellow panel on the underside of the tail. It was about the size of a wren or finch and in a casuarina. I saw a willy wagtail in its nest and lots of red-rumped parrots.

Hey Birdgirl.... nice shots of small birds! I think it does look like a yellow rumped thornbill, my S&D shows the stripe through its eye and all the other features that your has.
Sunshine Coast Queensland
nice one. All the first three are Yellow-rumped Thornbills.
Thanks for the id. I just looked it up in my Slater but will pull out S & D tomorrow
