BulBul collecting nesting material from the palm trees.

this kookaburra and his mate are my alarm clock.

this little fellow also made good use of the palm tree for nesting material. Could someone tell me what he is. I know I did identify him some time back but can't remember.

sorry to let you both down but i think it is a striated pardalote from the wing lines, the amount of yellow and the lack of spots on its back

Cheers, Owen.

Owen,

how observant of you. It does have the yellow streak on the face of the striated pardalote and white wing lines.

I have begun to realise how although I know many of the larger birds by site therre are few small birds I know by site so am on a steep learning curve, hence why I am interested in attracting them to our yard.

Owen I don't know where the pardalot nested but he was definitely collecting nesting material.

Hi, I have striated pardalotes in my garden! Here is one, they are very hard to take photos of.

Araminta,

thank you for sharing your photograph. What a lovely and gymnastic little bird.

I am hoping the end of winter/spring will bring back many of the birds this year that filled the air with their song and chitter-chatter last year.

This year my camera will be a mbit more at the ready.

Regards

Cheryl

This is the best pic I've been able to get of a striated pardalote. They are ground nesters and dig a long tunnel with a room at the end. They will also nest in holes in the sides of buildings. Ray

You are very lucky to have them in your yard. It must have been fun watching them collecting the nesting material

Thanks for all the responses. Ray that is a lovely picture of the striated pardalote. Thank you so much for sharing with us all. I really enjoy learning more and more about the birds in my backyard.

Birdgirl, my partner and I sit out in our yard having our morning coffee and the birds just come. We are blessed to live in a well wooded yard of five acres which is in close proximity to many acres of bushland and close to the river and the mountains. When the parrots come down in autumn/winter from the mountains our yard is filled with raucous chatter and bright colours.

Last spring there were so many birds that made use of that particular palm tree for nesting material I am so glad that when the last tennant here wanted it removed it never happened. The striated pardalote, the bul bul, willy wagtails, and several other birds I did not recognise and did not get a photo of came and took shred after shred of the material for nesting.

I will add some more photos I took of birds our yard.

Regards

Wollemi
