Bird Feeder

Hello

I have placed my bird feeder onto the end of a long pole to reduce the chance of cats catching the birds.

I have a lot of double bar finched and small wrens eating from the feeder.

gidday feartec.
that is one high feeder you've got there. this is a god feeder you have because the birds will feel safer being higher off the ground

Cheers, Owen.

... are we warming up the " feed, or not to feed" topic again??? To me, the best feeder is: NO FEEDER !!!!! What a joke,?? , Wrens don't need to be fed!! ( Sorry, I am giving up on this for good now, I'm out of here !!)

The Superb Fairy-Wrens don't eat often but do drop in to middle on some 5 in one finch mix.

The double bared finches are the most common visitor.

For God sake calm down you guys..... all of you!
This forum has members dropping like flies because people can't hang on to their tongues and their tempers. Please stop it.... it is so unnecessary.
Sorry Feartec, this is not really your fault. Feeding does produce a variety of opinions on this forums and it inevitably degenerates I am afraid.

Sorry birdie!! ..not really Feartec's fault? Oh ,well , does that mean, I can insult people as much as I like, the only thing I have to do, add ";)", to make it look like a joke? ( a bit like hitting someone, and saying, sorry it was meant to be funny?)

I agree that it is not Feartec's fault - this is his thread and you chose to come onto it Araminta and present your point of view in a very forceful manner. And as he has only done 5 posts he probably has not read all the immature aguing that has gone on over the last few months. He would not know what you are talking about when you say a topic is being raised again.
Holly has better things to do eg getting the new forum up and running than dealing with this sort of thing over and over again. I would expect a person who is well educated to argue his or her case by using facts and not emotion.
Some people do enjoy feeding wild birds and you will not be able to stop them. I find hearing about people enjoying feeding and watching birds far less distressing than hearing about people being delibertely cruel to animals

I just wanted to add something:
I think if a person feels tempted to write an argumentative or provocative comment, he or she should pause and think about who it will affect.
* Holly and her team work hard to provide this forum for all Australians (and maybe others) to use and enjoy. I think a person who deliberately discourages or insults other members is disrespecting and undermining the people who make this web site available
* People who join the forum are probably very nice and could make positive contributions to the forum over a long time if they weren't scared off. Their only 'crime' may be wanting to enjoy birds in their own gardens
The forum is not the place for crusades. There are many appropriate places:
* join or start a group
* set up a web site
* write a blog
* use a social networking page

Have to agree there Al.... just couldn't find the right words myself last night .... after a long week at work that kind of stuff was the last thing I wanted to sit down and read. Sorry Araminta but that is the truth .

OK guys - name calling is definitely not allowed here, Feartec, this is a warning, the ;) didn't negate the implication in the wording. I have said it numerous times before, tone and intent doesn't come across on a screen well. I do hope you stick around, despite this thread and share stories about the birds in your garden.

Aramita - I know that you are passionate about birds and the feeding issue is one that you feel very strongly about - and that is a good thing. Just remember that not everyone has been around to read other debates on the subject. Believe me, it is a topic that I deal with time and time again through BIBY - and it is a topic that I can guarantee will come up many more times on the forum.

There are many issues that are caused by people feeding birds, but people also take great delight in it and so, while we would much prefer that people create a bird-friendly garden where the birds can find their food naturally, some people will still continue to feed. It is a matter of stating your argument clearly, politely and without getting too exacerbated about it. Remember, you catch more flies with honey :)

No more posting in this thread please.
