Pied butcherbird

I went out yet again in search of the elusive grey-crowned babblers but did not see them today. Instead I saw some interesting pied butcherbird duets and some defending of territories

Hi birdgirl, nice catches there but sorry it is not a Pied Butcher bird :)
it is a grey and I think the last duel is with a peewee isn't it?

Yes you are right. Serves me right for posting and running, not checking, just being lazy
The attacker is a magpie-lark (called peewees in QLD?) and its mate was there too, also many noisy miners

Ha ha no matter which butcher bird it is they are always great to watch when they let rip aren't they?
Don't know if I posted this at the time but these two woke us up every morning with their noisy chorus when we were up at Woodgate beach...this was taken at dawn !

Cheers

Love the pic but I wouldn't love the birds if they woke me at dawn!

Where I live that is just an environmental hazard I think..... no point in trying to outsleep them cos they will get you most days.... it is an early rise for most of us here in QLD ....about 4-15 in summer

Birdie - the young of the grey butcherbird are brown.

I have a butcherbird that comes for feed every night and it's young used to fly in and was learning the ropes.

One night we had a huge storm. I heard the father calling but to no avail. I no longer see the younster but dad is still popping in.

Nature can be cruel.
