I went on holiday in October last year specifically to find Glossy Black Cockatoos. Their conservation status is "vulnerable", I think, and they are regionally extinct in some places.
These were taken in Nerang National Park. The bird with the yellow speckles is the female; the other is the male.
Andy, that's amazing to find glossy blacks. great shots too.
must have felt great to get some good shots of a vulnerable bird!
Cheers, Owen.
Thanks Owen. I didn't get just "some" shots... I got about 100. I was a bit enthusiastic.
My boyfriend and I watched them for about an hour (well, my boyfriend sat down and ate an apple). It was a lovely experience.
its better to be enthusiastic than to take no shots at all.
if i saw glossy blacks i'm sure i would be clicking away like mad as well.
Cheers, Owen.
AH so these are the special find I have been waiting to see Andy!!!
Well done and thank you for finally posting them, aren't they beautiful?
Hey the rain has stopped briefly...there is hope for a birding outing for us yet!!! LOL
I'll be in touch :')

Yes Birdie, these are the birds of which I've been speaking! They were the entire reason for the intended location of our holiday (Noosa National Park)... but then the landslide on the main road in Noosa resulted in a change of plan. So I was incredibly excited that I managed to find them on the Gold Coast.
(Birdie, just in case you're interested, I've posted some photos of one of my greyhounds in the social forum.)
Wow, nice shots and great find! I'm jealous. Not only one, but a male and a female. I can understand your rocketing excitement.

They are truly beautiful. I love the YTBCs we get around here, especially the call
Hi Birdgirl,
Even though YTBCs are found in my area (Brisbane), I've never seen any here. However, I saw many near the Blue Mountains a few years ago. I agree - their call is amazing.
The Glossy Blacks were much more quiet. They made sweet little contented noises while they were chewing their seed cones. Very cute.
Andy.
What a great find, Andy. You must be very pleased to have seen them and recorded such great images. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,
