The camera was on the flight setting because I was trying to catch the willie wagtail flying, but instead got him grabbing a spider.
I tried to get the welcome swallows scooping water, but they are so fast and unpredictable that it is EXTREME tracking - the camera was great, I was less so

Willie wagtail and welcome swallow
You're on fire with that new kit, Birdgirl. I have never been able to take inflight shots of such small birds. The WW with the prey is an outstanding shot.

Gorgeous shots birdgirl!
The WS in flight is just stunning.
Goodness Birdgirl, I went out and played with lots of small birds this morning.... not sure if I feel like posting them now after seeing your beautiful shots!!!! Well done, great to see you out experimenting and learning with your new gear.

Thanks everyone - it was a good day. I like to challenge myself and with the faster focussing I'll be trying more flight shots.
The WW shots have a lot of noise because I had the camera set on shutter priority iso 2000 for the swallows, but I love the spider moment
Birdie - please post - I would like to see something new.
Another welcome swallow shot
Worked it out!
btw ignore the silly ramblings above - for the ww with spider I was using shutter priority; f/5.6, exposure time 1/2500 sec, iso 3200 @ 400mm because I had just been taking photos of the welcome swallows

Unreal shots Birdgirl, I gave up on Welcome Swallows in flight a long time ago, my shots of them resembled a lump of mud flying through the air.
Its very hard to get a detailed shot of a Willie wagtail to and you have certainly done them justice with your shots.
I am glad to see you are having such a great time with that new camera, good onya mate, well done.
