Some bird portraits

Don't ask me why I decided to do some cropping and post some portraits. I think its one of the beauties of digital photography. Sit back relax and see some deails you wouln't normally see on a bird unless you hold it in your hand. i didn't identify them sorry but they are mostly common birds me thinks.

Well worth the effort. I love seeing all that detail. The masked lapwing looks a bit like an alien

Excellent work Alex..... show the character of each bird well too. Nice and sharp without being over the top.... which I like too.
Although they are all beautiful I think the Purple Swamphen does it for me the most..... such rich colour. And second would be the Thornbill at the end...if that is what it is.

Great work! The colours and the quality are really good. I love the photos of the magpie and the currawong looking directly at the camera.

Love them Ace. Great idea to do some portraiting. The photos are all rippers and show incredible feather detail. I like the lapwing because I've never seen the 'mask'in close detail and it looked good as well.

Cheers, Owen.

Thanks guys. The one I will always remember is the masked lapwing. He didn't really like me very much. After I finished photographing him and turned my back he attacked me and managed to put two neat little holes in my back with the spurs on his wing. Yes he drew a little bit of blood. Not sure if this is typical behaviour or not.

I was born to live and I live to die.

LMAO.... ALex...most definitely is typical behaviour if they have chicks on the ground or in the nest that is for sure!!! They make the RAF look tame when they are protecting their family!!!!! WHen I first saw them I was working on a construction site where a retirement village was being built on what was a low lying swampy area that had probably been their home for many years..... they were not going to be moved by the gardeners, landscapers or builders and in the end they raised their young in the newly built garden beds and the workers had to have a lookout to keep them away when they wanted to do anything close by. I hot swooped many times trying to get in behind the wall and raise the flags!!!! They were too funny and scary :')
