Ah ha - you have been out! They are a striking looking bird, aren't they, with the orange bill and eye? I'd love to get some photos of them, but am a bit afraid of mixing salt air and camera. Hope you had a great day!
Thanks Birdgirl, re your camera..... salt air should not hurt it unless it was covered in spray but sand is your mortal enemy! When I am at the beach like this, I never lay my bag or camera down on anything that might have sand on it. I hang the bag on a tree if necessary. You have to live and get your gear to where the action is or there is no point in having it. I have seen the way pros look after their gear and they are rough in most cases !! Get out and take it to the beach but use care that's all. In all my time of working with Canon, it was only water damage and sand damage that were the huge problems. Humidity of course can be a worry. Salt water will kill it usually , but it only takes one grain of sand to screw up the mechanism and then your warranty is void.
Live a little Kim... that is what you got the gear for in the first place... you can use it without compromising it.... ask aa he is down by the sea heaps and his lens is worth big bucks!!!
Thanks George and Owen... George I got lucky with the tide being out enough to walk across the pools and get nice and close...they didn't seem to be too bothered about my presence. But I seriously dipped out on a flock of what I think are crested terns then next morning as the pools were still too full to get close enough and they were out on the edge nearer the surf. Plus I had a PL filter on and as I said in the other thread I think it just under exposed many of my shots. I'll find a few and post them in this thread when I get a minute... I have been wading through the many trying to sort a decent one!

Maybe I'll take my old camera out - but I will take care of it because I still need it for anything close

Nice shots Birdie.
Great work Birdie.
Some lovely images there Adrienne. Love the one with the little wave splashing up behind the bird.
