This guys were in my backyard this morning. I couldn't figure out what they were doing on my oak tree. At first I thought they may be scraping some sort of an insect off the leaves but looking at the photos seems they were lapping up dew trapped in the oak leaves. I had to use a fast shutter speed to freeze the motion because the leaf was vibrating very quickly and i also managed to get the tongue sticking out.
And later resting up
Lovely action shot! I love observing birds' behaviours. Thanks for posting.
great shot alex. I saw silvereyes this morning on a similar tree and they might have been doing the same thing.
well done to take a pic of this behaviour.
Cheers, Owen.

Very nice mate. They are a beautiful Honey Eater aren't they?
Great to capture this moment. I love learning more about the birds lives. It makes the photo even more interesting
Nice behaviour captured. I wish they would visit my garden.

Yes I love these birds. There is a couple of pairs always hanging around my backyard. Interesting, today they were huntimng insects all day rather than looking for flowers. I guess there are no flowers for them to feed on at this time.
And they also don't seem to be too afraid of people which is so nice. I love them. My favourite bird in my garden, well very close to the thornbills who visit my yard ocassionally. I think they are thornbills anyway. I must post up a pic for you guys to identify for me.
I was born to live and I live to die.
:Love the resting up shot, but both are great shots. Well done
I've succumbed to the birding bug!
