I went to the spot where I saw a brown falcon last week. I saw it on the power line, so I stopped the car as close as I dared, grabbed the camera and took a few photos while in the car ...
... then to my amazement his partner appeared. She is noticably bigger and has lighter facial markings. I didn't even see her coming
I tried to edge closer but they flew off. I saw one hover for a while, but too far away for a worthwhile photo. I decided they were gone and wouldn't be coming back in the near future, so I packed up the camera and buckled up. As I drove, I saw one sitting right in front of me on the power line! The sun was in the wrong position, but I took lots of photos, then edged closer and took lots more.

You are unbelievable .... well done
Sunshine Coast Queensland
They are beautiful shots of a nice BOP birdgir. you always manage great shots.
Cheers, Owen.
Well done Kim. With the last three, it is generally better to get you between the sun and the birds, but they still look fab! :)
Great photos! I'm increasingly jealous!
Akos, I think that's what Kim means when she says "the sun was in the wrong position".
Thanks Andy. :) Sometimes I should read more and talk less. :( I didn't read Kim's text, just looked at the photos. Another dork moment for me. :)
I've been reading and looking at these photos for some weeks now after filing survey sightings for a few years.Never thought to look at the forum before .
Now I am blown away by the beautiful shots !! Not just these here by Birdgirl2009 but all of you that post .You all make my morning that much better to see what you saw and photographed the day before !!
My thanks to you all
Huxter
awesome catch birdgirl and sharp ones too, now you have your camera with you this time :)
Thanks everyone
huxter09 - that is a lovely comment
windhover - Andy is right. As I drove in, the sun was behind my (car's) shoulder. It brought up the lovely rich browns. The photos are a bit underexposed but when I saw the first brown falcon I just grabbed the camera and started taking photos, using the settings already on it. As I drove out, I was facing the sun. I could see the harsh light on the front and shadow on the back, but I can't drive past them without them flying off. The car is noisy on the dirt road and the power lines are very close to the edge. It did fly off as I got closer, so I didn't get another chance with good lighting. But I'm sure to visit again ...
I adjusted exposure in picnik to show detail on the wings, but they look a bit washed out
WOW !!!! Birdgirl, you have been holding out on us all these years, I am glad you have decided to unleash your talents...top work !!!! Thx for sharing :)
