Today we payed a second visit to the grey box forest west of Melvourne and on the way we stopped at a wetland and saw ducks, stilts and dotterels. Then we stopped at a small treatment plant and saw lots of ducks, including a big flock of hardheads. In the forest there were lots of thornbills, brown treecreepers, brown falcons, and flame robins.
Immature black-winged Stilt
Black-fronted Dotterel, a first for me
the same bird
please help me out on this one, another first. I think it is a juvenile Red-kneed Dotterel but tell me if you have other ideas
yet another first, a flock of Hardheads at the small treatment plant
Brown Treecreeper in the woodland
Thanks for looking and please help me with that waterbird ID.
Lovely shots Owen ....looks like an interesting place. the Dotterels are such cute little birds and I always love the Stilts. I think it looks like you may be correct on your ID but only going by my S & D.

Hi Owen, can't help you with your question, sorry. I'm not even looking at the birds that much, because I have always been fascinated by the reflections on water, since I was a tiny girl. I love your photos, even if there was no bird in them. I remember, when I was a tiny 4 year old, I almost drowned in very shallow water,(only my mother saved me ), I clearly remember thinking: how beautiful the glittering reflection of the sun light on the pebbles is, and that there was no need for me to breath, everything was just beautiful.... Then my mother pulled me out of the water, which made me very angry. Your photos bring back those memories for me. I just was a very "strange child", nature was full of wonders for me !

Thanks you two. I also like the reflection water makes, especially on clear river in the bush. The swamp was loaded with dotterels and they are cute little birds darting around everywhere.
Cheers, Owen.
Nice shots mate and a nice variety.....looks like you had a great day.
Thanks Tassie. I did have a good day but it was a bit too windy so I didn't see all that much in the forest.
Cheers, Owen.
I went out with the bird club this morning and saw 36 species but no pics due to severe overcast conditions and rainforest terrain......the lighting was either white out or to dark, I still had a good day, you had a better one :)
at least you still got to enjoy the rainforest and see lots of birds Tassie..
Cheers, Owen.
For sure mate. I am not complaining, everyday out is a good day.
What a great day out. The black-fronted dotterel is a handsome bird. I would love to sit and watch a treecreeper
Thanks Birdgirl. The Brown treecreepers are much more agile than their white-throated cousins and it is good to watch them hopping around the trees and even on the ground. They call a lot and are very social birds.
Cheers, Owen.
