Love these guys , I have soft spot for finches and parrots from the days when I had aviaries . To see them in the wild and suburban Darwin is even better
Gidday Narly, I can really relate to what your saying and what you felt seeing these little guys in the wild as I bred Natives and Foreigns for years.....what a privilege to see Long Tails in the wild and even better to get some shots.....thx for sharing mate.
G'day Tassie , it's surprising how common they are when you know what your looking for in the suburbs of Darwin . Double Bars are very common as well usually right behind the longtails. Wasn't that close jaytee , I had to use full optical zoom plus a bit of digital zoom on top of that .
P.S. The cropped tails and beaks are not my doing .

Great range of shots Narly. They look like wonderful birds. I like finches and they are very social and good to watch.
Cheers, Owen.
Very nice narly. Seems weird the first time you see them in the wild, but very exciting.
I also kept longtails years ago (we called them black hearts)
I'm so envious,I would love to be able to see them in the wild where they belong.
Another really great set Narly....the cropping is because you need to resize to 500 on the longest edge .
Sunshine Coast Queensland
Fixed up the cropping

What great looking little birds. All finches have lovely markings.

Beautiful little birds, I have not seen them before - looks like you were able to get fairly close to them.
