On Tuesday we went to the Treatment Plant to try and find the Red-necked Avocets reported and we found them in the Paradise Road ponds on the left just before Lake Borrie. We also saw heaps more birds and we saw a Buff-banded Rail near Little River but no shot. I took turns with my dad for the photos depending on who's side of the car the birds were on!
We just upgraded to special access permit for free so hopefully we can get even more shots in future visits.
We saw a white-bellied Sea Eagle soaring over the bay near Beach Road but it soon disappeared.

Fantastic Owen, all those birds in the same area, in the same day!! How do you do it?? I love the "cross eyed" Scarlet Robin. Amongst the birds from the Treatment Plant, are some I haven't seen yet,a Bronze Cuckoo,Red-necked Avocet, and a Hoary-headed Grebe. Hope to see some one day!! The pair of Black-shouldered Kites is wonderful, what a great time you must have had!? M-L

Very nice pic's Owen1.
Can't wait to get back there some time soon myself.
All the migrating bird should be returning in a month or so.
Very nice selection of bird's. Havn't seen a Scarlet robin yet, might have to take a trip to the Dandenongs.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks everyone. One of the Kites was on a post next to the car but flew off before we could do anything about it.
We also have the chance of seeing OBPs next visit because they might be at the Borrow Pits.
Cheers, Owen.
A great set of pics, Owen. That pair of BSK are nest building at the moment. They are reasonably tolerant of humans, so if you approach slowly and down low, you may get even closer to them next time. I love the Horsfields shot, a species which I have not yet photographed.

Thanks George. We found the Kites on beach Road and they were well bonded. One was even on a post next to the car but it flew off seconds after I spotted it. The Cuckoos were in shrubs near the coast just north of the Beach Road Boatramp and a Sea Eagle was over the bay there to but quite a way out.
Cheers, Owen.
Wow Owen.... what a great selection of birds you got. Great to see and I really love your Horsfields Bronze Cuckoo, and I too have never seen one of these. Must have been a great day out .

We were quite lucky to be in the only area without rain that day! The Cuckoos were making strange noises and surprisingly tame.
Cheers, Owen.
Great set of shots Owen, like the inflight of the Avocets and the Horsfields, never seen either of those.
Gonna have to pull the finger out and get down there for a look, been in there plenty of times in the truck but don't take the camera with me.
