Spotted a family of Spur winged Lapwings today at Penrith near a main road. Their were both parents & 3 young. Both parents were very protective & very quickly let me know how devoted they were.They were also very concerned about some Ravens who were pretty close aswell. The young lapwings would sit really still on the concrete & blended in well.
The lapwing in the first photo looks a lot like me, dressed up in medieval costume for my daughter's wedding . On horse back, with medieval games and the lot.I would put up a photo, but only at special request! LOL) Anyway, every time I see lapwings, they remind me of it. M-L

Great to see them! Where abouts in Penrith mate? I live in the area and have not yet seen a Masked Lapwing family this year. :-( Is this anywhere near Harvey Norman?

The baby is so cute. We have quite a few around here. I've been waiting for them to fly at me when I go for a walk.

I had an inkling I had a photo to add to this post, no, not a getup, but an old photo of an angry masked lapwing dive-bombing me. Then today, back in my own "backyard", what should happen but this:
Being at the poo ponds seemed an appropriate place as they freak me out when they do this.

They sure do know how to live dangerously, my boys came home from school today & told me that they cant play in the bottom playground, because their is a family of Lapwings their. If the kids get close they are swooped. It could be a while b4 they can play in that playground. There are 2 parents & 2 chicks.
