O my god, this Rufous Night Heron looks a lot like some people we all meet every day, but wouldn't you be grumpy, if you only had one leg? Great find, great photo! M-L
I have only known this as the Nankeen Night Heron although I have seen it with the "Rufous" bit tacked on the front - has the name changed? Lovely photograph as well - well captured.
Ha ha, Araminta - great comment! When I lived in Clifton Hill, VIC I would often see these birds in a similar position - usually very still and perched on a log overhanging Merri Creek.
