Great visitor to have. I am struggling to see the difference from a Barn Owl.

Cheers, Owen.

Hi

This is definitely an Eastern Barn Owl, not a Masked Owl. Sorry. :-(

Masked Owls, even the lightest morphs in FNQ, have really, really powerful, thick legs and feet, a more rounded facial disc, darker markings around the eyes and a different pattern on the wing feathers. Also, they would have more spots on the breast/belly area as well. Here is an image of a female Masked Owl from Sydney.

Thanks Akos. I haven't seen either so I don't have any experience with these birds.

Cheers, Owen.

Thanks Windhover.

Sorry I haven't responded earlier. Out of internet range for a while.

Was going on what our Agronomist said. Think he had stick to his bugs, soil and plants. Got a 6 pack out of him for it. Yeah.
.
We have an increase in out mouse population in the shed since our pet python went walk about. Had only put down mouse baits 2 days before the owl turned up. The owl is still here and the baits have been put away in case we pioson the owl.
.
Cracking bird. He/she is getting used to humans being around. Hope he stays for a while longer yet.
.
Does anyone know their nesting habits? Would like to give him/her a head start on starting a family.
.
Got plenty of hollow logs on the property that we can put up high in the rafters (8 metre ceilings for the harvesting equipment).

Lovely bird and beautiful photo. You must have a very friendly shed for him (her?) to take up residence. Hope he stays there for you.
