bird bath

HI guys, eventually I managed to login in to Forum, hurray. We`ve got all sort of birds here, living in the outskirt of Sydney Hills.
Establishing a native plants and the rewards is here, Crimson&Eastern Rosellas, King Parrots, Lorrikeets Gallahs and Butcher bird, Eastern Whipbird and my favorite Magpies and the list goes on.
I made beautiful bird bath but being still novice in this `game` i appreciate an advice whether it should be rather in the open eg. center of the garden & exposed or somewhere in the shade more in the bushy part?

Regards George

Hi Sookie

Definately in shad e & light bush area. Small birds will need close by plants to hide in when frightened etc
It may cause more cleaning out the pond, the birds should come first.

Best of luck, report sightings

HI REDBROWFINCH,
thanks for response. I had the original bath in the spot that fits your recomendation perfectly. However being in doubt I put it temporarily in open that the birds may feel more secure seeing no possible enemy around.
Not being home much of the time only `corpus delicti` are the feathers in water. However I will put it back in to the bush.

Thanks again
Sookie

Hi Sookie - you need to find a balance. Close enough to branches that birds can perch on before entering the water and fly to when frightened. But far enough from shrubs that might shelter a predator.

It is important to clean the bath regularly so that diseases aren't shared around.
