I took this today at Kwinana Grain Terminal this morning. Not a great shot, but it captured the Whistling Kite's feathered legs quite good.
Knew I should have cropped first. well my version of cropping anyway.
Good onya mate,I never realized how bulky their legs were.
HI daggert Some serious hardware on them leggs
Looks more like a Little Eagle to me, daggert. The legs of the Whistling Kites aren't feathered down to the feet. Cheers, al

Hi all. I agree with Al. Definitely the feathered legs of a Little Eagle. Whistlers have bare shanks. Cheers Denis

ergh, that'd be right! I thought we'd worked out these birds were Kites here. I did read yesterday that Little Eagles had the feathered legs, and I should have asked for conformation before saying anything. Heres one before it took off
Now I'll post the others that I thought were kites. Same birds??? or not. Could it be they are both there? the above I played with the colours a bit.
aa, maybe you should go out to the terminal and take some of your spiffy shots so we can actually get a clear shot. Watch out for those trains though.
Looking at the eagle and the flight one above, it seems that after the 'elbow' joint it is hair-less. Maybe they are different species Cool !!
Hi daggert, the last two are photos of Whistling Kites. The Little Eagle is a light morph bird. Cheers, al
...and this is what a dark morph Little Eagle looks like. Photo was taken long before digital cameras came on to the market :)
Now I suppose I will have to work harder on my I'ding when I take shots.
