Does anyone know how to deter native mynas from nesting? The buggers always chase away any bird that comes near the tree and lands in it. I would love to have a Kookaburra or Magpie nest in that tree as they come around all the time near breeding season only to be chased off by native mynas which nest in that tree. If someone had any advice to deter them without non-lethal force I'd appreciate it.

Nothing much I can suggest except enjoy their company and use the lack of other birds as an excuse to get out of the house. If they are getting a free meal around your place either from being fed or scraps scraps from the chook pen etc then preventing this would help. Sorry best I can do.

Next door neighbours have a few birds, and the bird grain is all over the ground as starlings, sparrows and turtle spotted doves all congregate to eat it. Until the mynas come and chase them away.
One deterrent to Native Mynahs is encourage Red Wattlebirds by growing a grevillia or two. One day, I was amused to discover that making the Wattlebird "quark de quark" noise will shift them along.
Mynahs don't always have it their own way with other birds either, Rainbow lorrikeets, Magpies, Peewits and even the old Trutledove will sort them out.
Minimise their access to junk food - bread, takeaway leftovers etc, they like this the best.
Be aware too, they do have an upside, they eat lawn grubs, my lawn has not needed spraying since they arrived.
