Hi. We have just moved into a new house in melbournes northern suburbs & there are some very noisy birds in the tree right outside our bedroom window every morning. its at the stage where we are being woken up at 4am each day by these birds. Is there anyway i can get rid of them nicely as opposed to other ways i have been advised.

one way is to get a cat as a pet. I can't think of another way, the birds are probably Common Minors which can make a lot of noise early in the morning.

My partner is allergic to cats! :-)
any other suggestions? a work collegue has suggested 'baiting' them which i find cruel.
CATS????????????? Very bad idea. As bad or even worse than baits. Try rubbewr snakes, hanging strings of old CDs or alfoil, scaring them away each morning untill they get the idea or just learn to block the noise out. The latter has worked for me in the past, You would be amazed how much you can sleep through when you put your mind to it.

I am regularly woken at 4am by a whole tribe of different species, and yes, you can get used to them. Cats and baiting are not suggestions most people would take kindly to on this forum . It is about encouraging and keeping them around not getting rid of them. Try earplugs!! :)
We are priveleged to wake up to their calls, believe it or not.

At no stage have i suggested that i WOULD bait them, i find this cruel. Another member suggested a cat, not me. Personally i dont like cats & my partner is allergic.
At the moment i must disagree with your 'privleged' comment, as they are now louder & there is more of them, to the point they are waking my new born as well.

Do they have a nest in the tree? If not, you might be able to put some kind of figure in the tree, kind of like a scarecrow to get them to move to another tree away from your windows. But if a nest is there you may have to wait till they're finished nesting.
