Can you reply to a reply that is, for instance, number 5 in a list of 10 replies to a post.
In other words you don't want to reply to the OP but one of the subsequent replies.

Sometimes I wish we could, but unlike phpBB or vBulletin I don't think this forum software has that functionality. Or if it does perhaps it is not switched on. Maybe it will be sorted out soon. :)
The new software will be able to do that. I will get Piers to pop in and explain for you all.

Sounds complicated... does that mean we will be getting all sorts of disjointed postings? I find some forums really hard to follow and I like the way this one runs actually. (sorry just my opinion)

Threading (the ability to reply to a specific reply) is a very useful feature and can make some conversations a lot easier to follow. Generally that is true of conversations that can be quite large though, and I'm not sure the conversations on this site quite get there - but maybe with that feature added they will!?

Couldn't this be achieved with the "quoting" system?
I think, the way it's done now is fine, you just name who and what you are replying to. It makes you restrict your comments ,and if you want to, you can start a new specific topic on a different thread. (I don't always stick to it, but I should!)

I have to say I agree, I like the informal and conversational way this forum runs. It is easy to read from the top and follow the way people are thinking and it feels more like talking with a mate . I never have to wonder who I am reading and see a load of titles and subjects that interrupt the flow of the conversation. I don't believe our threads are big enough to need anything else most of the time. All I would like to be able to do is edit your own post. You and I think a lot alike Araminta. However what will come will come I suppose.

We agree with birdie and Araminta. We tend to catch up wih the forum once or twice a week and it is easy to follow the thread of the conversation in its current format.
