Came across an interesting bird shop in Sydney, called "Birdsville" in Gardeners Road at Rosebery in the shopping precint.
Heaps of birds for sale plus accessories, books etc. Spent nearly 30 minutes in there browsing. Highlight is the shops pet yellow Macaw who sits on a huge perch in the open, free to roam around the shop. Also a pair of red parrots that will sit on your shoulder and vie for attention.
Plenty of Budgies, Finches, Doves, Cockatiels and other parrots. Fellow that runs it likes to chat about birds too.
Great place to spent a few minutes if in the area.
Was in the pet shop last Friday to say hello to my feathered friends and found the Macaw was gone. Sold for just over $5,000 (wow, lot of money for a bird). Miss the Macaw as it was so tame and peaceful, hope it went to a good home. Owner said he will be getting another Macaw soon.
I wonder where he gets the macaws from, Raven.
Didn't think to ask him, he said another one would be in soon, they are young birds too. I could think of better things to do with $5,000!
Next time I am over there I will ask for you...
His response, & the way he responds, might be interesting. However, I'm not up with the pet trade & everything might be quite legitimate with macaw breeders leading our economic recovery.
Stolen Macaw featured in todays Sydeny Daily Telegraph (Mon 17th Oct) from Hunter Valley pet shop. "Lotto, the yellow and blue Macaw worth $7,500 was stolen by intruders on Sep 26th. Police believe the thieves targeted the bird for sale on the black market or to add to their own illegal collection. $1,000 reward offered for the return of Lotto, footage on Youtube from CCTV showing the theft of Lotto."
The bird at Rosebery was a bargain at $5,000!
I hope the owner of Lotto gets lucky.
I hope Lotto gets lucky.
