hi Magpie, I know what you mean about the word feral, I feel the same about 'pest' too. Especially when humans are to blame for thier introduction.. rabbits, cats, cane toads etc.
Thanks for the info on the Turtle dove/pigeon, he certainly was very beautiful.
Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best
Hi Hev,
as I can not see any dove characteristics in your bird
I don't think it is a pigeon/dove hybrid but a feral pigeon. http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/finder/display.cfm?id=40
@ zoidberg, yes you can cross domestic pigeons with doves.
What we call a Feral Pigeon is an Australian Rock Dove - a product of domestication of an introduced bird. They are mainly found in or close to towns and cities.
The terms 'dove' and 'pigeon' are used pretty much interchangably, though usually 'dove' is for smaller birds in the Columbidae family.
Hmm can't seem to get the hang of photobucket pic sizes

A mutation of turtle doves and domestic pigeons (pets)
I dont like the word "feral" - remember its humans who brought the pigeons here. I like them all, beautiful birds with interesting behaviours.

interesting, i didnt know that happened!
ie domestic pigeons and turtledoves - you mean they cross breed?
The feral it is not a turtle-dove/pigeon cross,
just a domestic pigeon .
