this fellow i am sure may be a type of pluver he flew into our pumpkin patch in a small group. we live in chartes towers qld and may have thought either oriental or hooded pluver either way a juvenile

Hi Joanneh
Interesting find.
Do you have another image?
The reason I ask is that I cannot determine the length of the beak.
It seems very short and dark. But there appears to be some grass just beyond which is dark orange, and I cannot make out if that is in fact part of the beak or not. A second image might help clarify that.
I was wondering about a Sandpiper, and bill length is important.
Did you see it flying?
Wing markings also are helpful.
Cheers

i will look and see they were very fast easyily spooked they flew around and the wings were angled like pluver or swallows
sorry Dennis no more shots of beak but the beak was short, straight, black at the base and orange for the rest
Hi Joanneh
.
If you confirm that the orange bit is part of the beak, and not part of the grassy background (as it could possibly be, from the image) then I think your bird is more likely to be a Sandpiper than a "Plover" (Dotterel).
.
That's where I stop, not being a wader specialist.
.
Interesting. Interesting.
Lets see what others can suggest.
Cheers

Gee this is a hard one I have just spent half an hour looking at everything I have and I am no closer it would be good to see someone ID this bird.
The closet I have seen to it is a Stint but I am sure its not one.
Oh well good luck.
Not a wader expert by along way, but almost sure it's a plover, and I'll go for a young Oriental.
