We live in the Derwent Valley Tas and have been fortunate to have two striated? pardalote families nest with us for the last 20 years.
Both families use holes in the weatherboards where old plumbing has been removed, just the right size for them.
When the plumbing was removed we took a while to get around to repairing the weatherboards and low and behold the paddies(as we affectionatly call them) moved in, well that was that for the repairs. A fair swap I feel, for watching their comings & goings and the fledgling of babies is a real joy and privilidge.
We also have two families of wellcome swallows that visit us each year with nests on our verandahs. They also give us much pleasure and as with the pardalotes we eagerly await their return every year.
I'm assuming that the nests of both species are passed down through the generations. Can anyone tell me how long these lovely little birds live for?
many thanks ted
Thats excellent Ted, I would love to have those guys nesting around the house.
Mate I cannot tell you how long they live for.
