can anyone offer a suggestion as to what these might be? I have never seen them before and the last few days they have been circling round and round quite high and in the same area.
They don't seem to do anything just fly round and round. Sorry it is a distant image.

Perhaps some BoP looking for food?
How big are they? I am thinking swallows or martins circling around grabbing small insects that could be swarming above the tree tops.

Hi birdie, if they are flying very fast they could be Swift, Swiftlet or Needletail.

They are not the little swallows I see by the pond etc. They are much bigger than that. I'll look up Needletail and see what they are

Yup I am going to go with white throated needletail. I have enlarged the pics and the tail has the same white V shape when fanned out. The size would be about right too.

Can you see the tiny feather tips (and I mean TINY) looking like needles prortuding from the tail in your photo?
No , not enough detail in the shot I'm afraid. But I asked an experienced birder who lives locally and he said they would be the needletails for sure.
