Could someone please help me work out which Egret this is?
I am thinking Eastern Reef Egret but am not sure how to tell

I think you are right birdie, they are the only ones (in my books), with yellow legs!?? But, someone might have other ideas? Anyhow, what a beautiful photo! :-)

Spot on there in my opinion with the ID.
White phase Eastern Reef Egret. The shorter, chunky bill gives it away IMO. :)
Thanks guys.. it was a first for me then. I saw another one today at Coolum but only from a distance doing the same thing....fishing on the rock pools with the incoming tide.

Coolum is just a 20 minute drive from me Owen. I took heaps of stuff there the other day, you can see it on my Flickr site .
It is great for BOP with Brahminy and Osprey and heaps of other stuff. I was just telling Araminta that I got my best ever shot of a Rainbow Bee eater there on the beach. :')

Thank you Owen, it has been a learning curve for me ..both how to shoot birds and also how to find them and find out about them. I owe it all to this Forum as I knew nothing beyond the Iconic ones before I joined. I can't stress enough the importance of people using this as an educational and fun learning place where everyone feels comfortable to share experiences and their images alike, it is all about the birding experience in the end :') . You are so knowledgeable for such a young member and already on your way to becoming a talented bird photographer..... remember that your generation is the future !!!

Birdie , I'm at the starting point right now, I know "very" little about birds, and almost nothing about photography. I only got a camera recently, I have a lot to learn.I love this forum and it's members, for the encouragement and friendly comments people give. One person I learned a lot from is Owen, a polite young man and good photographer. I appreciate all the help I can get from this forum, thanks!! Marie-Louise

Thanks you two. The camera does a lot of the work for me because it knows exactly what settings to put itself on for what conditions. I have found it also helps to know about a bird's behaviour when you're trying to get photos of it because you can predict how it is most likely to act.
