What Baby am I ?

I took this photo today. The little one is bigger than a Robin , but smaller than a Blackbird. (It is not a blackbird, they have a dark bill and almost no tail) If you look at the tail, it is thin and long for a juvenile. Any Idea, what it is? M-L

Some more info that might help. It rained and the bird was all puffed up, so it might have a different shape when dry. When it flew off, it sat on the side of a tree very much like a Robin.Have a look at it's feet, they are made for gripping not for digging? It might not be a juvenile? Any ideas? I would so like to know. M-L

Hi Araminta,

My initial thought was that it looked like a juvenile Eastern Yellow Robin. They often cling to the sides of trees.

Thanks Andy,it does look like a Robin, but it was a little bit bigger, but then again Baby birds often do, because they puff up a lot.The eyes look typical for a Robin too.

I think Andy is spot on. If you look hardon the area above the feet near the wing you can see the faintest hint of yellow starting.

Cheers, Owen.

I think all three of us are right, it is a juvenile E Yellow Robin. I just found a photo of a younger one, it looks spotty all over, like the rest of some spots on this ones wings and breast. Unless someone else has other ideas, we stick to the ID "juvenile Eastern Yellow Robin" Thanks M-L
