In Eastern Vic, near wetlands bordering a river and heavily forested State Park. Small bird as described in title, will try to work out how to upload a pic. Any suggestions greatly appreciated :)

as per my post above, the red-rumped small bird, here is the photo (I hope this works):
Imm Red-browed Finch / Firetail I would say.
Cheers,
Scott.
Welcome to the forum, and we look forward to seeing more photos.
As Scott said, it's an immature Red-browed Finch. I've seen them in family groups - Did you see any adults around?
Regards,
Andy.
thanks so much guys, I can definitely see that now-an immature red-browed finch. The photos were actually shot by my partner while I was some distance away with our young daughter, so I did not observe this bird myself. I have asked him if he saw any adult Red-browed Finches with this one, but he said he only spotted this young, inquisitive, solo bird at the time. Will keep an eye out for the rest of the family on our next visit there, at Wirilda Environment Park, at the base/Southern end of of Tyers State Park in Vic. Thanks very much for all your help with ID'ing this little fellow, and the warm welcome :)
Thanks for posting the photo, and also "wecome" from me. Altough I have many red-browed finches in my garden (I have taken and posted lots of photos of them), I have not seen a juvenile bird.Maybe I should pay more attention to them. M-L
