have you seen???

Dear Backyard Birders, Hello! I am new to the BIB membership and would like to let others know that I have a particular interest in Aust White Ibis, Laughing Kookaburra, Spotted and Laughing Turtle-doves, Rainbow Lorikeets and Sulphur-crested Cockatoos. If you have any tales about these birds it would be great if you could share them. Ah! Technology! What a wonderful thing!

Jan,

thanks for the reply Jan - intersting story. My study area is southern West Australia? Are you a 'Westie' or an 'Eastie'?
Intersting breeding information - thats a long time breeding. Nice she brings the young to show you.

G'day tatgal. You might be interested in my story about sulphur-crested cockatoos. I have 2 macadamia (QLD nut) trees in my suburbsn Brisbane backyard. S-C cockatoos are often seen sitting on a branch, picking nuts and trying to chew through the green outer husk and the shell to get to the nut inside. Don't know how successful they are. I find lots of nuts on the ground with either the outer husk or the shell partly chewed through. Sue

Thanks for the tales. I am interested in hearing about people's experiences with and observations of our feathered friends. They provide interesting insights into their behaviour and ecology.
