Dogs and birds

I'm replying to Andy regarding the type of dog I have. She's a little miniature foxy x chihuahua and if I let her she would chase every bird in the park! I have her on a stretchy lead and when I spot a bird in the distance I reel her in and keep her very close. Her favourite activity is chasing possums up trees (bouncing around under them barking) and growling at night herons (finally figured out what they were after months of squinting into the darkness on the oval) when we go for our evening walk. I never let her close enough to actually catch anything.

Here's a picture of her, her name is Shadow:

What a cutie! I have a greyhound named Deanna. She also loves to look for possums. She doesn't bark, but she stands on her back legs and puts her front legs on the tree branch and pulls it down towards her... and I'm thinking "Deanna don't you dare try to climb that tree"; not because she would get the possum, but because I can just see the branch springing back up like a diving board and sending Deanna flying into the neighbour's yard.

When I have the energy to read the instructions for posting photos, maybe I'll post a photo of Deanna.

Andy.

She is cute, makes you wonder who would dump a dog like her - my boss found her wandering at a very busy intersection in Preston, it's a wonder she survived. Anyway after a few weeks of my boss trying to find her owner unsuccessfully I took her home for a trial in June this year - she's been here ever since and is now micro-chipped, registered and desexed. She's our first dog ever and all my family thinks she's a little champ.

Shadow would chase a possum right up a tree if she had the chance and was able to climb it, fortunately she can only jump and bark and do her little dance on the ground. I'm sure the possums don't appreciate her actions, but they never really seem too bothered in fact sometimes it seems like they tease her by sitting at the bottom of the tree on the ground and waiting until she's quite close before they scramble up the trunk.

I look forward to seeing a photo of Deanna someday - hopefully not flying through the air!
