I know its not great but I got a kick out of it. Its only the third I've ever seen. I had just had a close encounter with a snake, (a copperhead I think) and I was pretty jumpy! Lucky I looked up in time to see this beautiful bird but it was a long way off. I have now seen about 5 snakes in the last few days, (no wonder they call us 'twitchers').
That's a nice immature Sacred Kingfisher. Wish I were there to get down low and photograph the Copperhead. It looks like an Austrelaps sp snake to me.
Yes, nice Kingfisher, but do tell about the Copperhead. Remember the one I took photos of in my garden last week? Yours looks a lot bigger than mine? Or were you closer? I would say mine wasn't longer than 70cm, and yours?

Good catch with the bird. I see so few here now, but they are still around. Like sparkling jewels. I have never had an opportunity to photograph one. As for your land lubbing friend, they are not my favourite creature at all, but again, good catch picture-wise.

Brisbane southside.
Thanks for the comments, wish I could get closer to the Kingfishers and further from the copperheads. I have seen 5 or 6 lately. More phots for Windhover .
