ID please - is this an Australian Reed-Warbler?

Or is it a variant? The purplish feathers on top of the head, the dark top bill and dark legs don't look like a typical Aus Reed-warbler (or none that I have seen anyway...) I shot this one at Laratinga Wetlands, Mt Barker, South Australia, today, 6 Feb 2012. Any help would be appreciated! cheers, Barb

My guess would be  a Golden Headed Cisticola

I'm not sure where those distinctive purple legs would come from.

Hi Leopold2. It's not a Golden Headed Cisticola, they have pinkish legs. I would say that it is an Aust. Redd Warbler. I think that juveniles can have grey-bluish legs and have varying plumage changes. Hope this helps. ^_^

Hi Elle, thanks for your comment - I think you may be right. It does look very much like a reedwarbler but the colours are just bizarre! I have looked at some other images on the net of juvenile warblers, and they do have slightly varying feather colours. So let's just say - until we hear otherwise, LOL - that this is a juvenile Aus Reed-warbler!

cheers, Barb

I have noticed that sometimes, depending on the light at the time of the day, or the colour of the surrouning plants ,I get some blue reflectiopns on my photos. I can see some blue reflections on the head and the beak. Just a thought.
