The female Scarlet Robin

Today we went out to find some birds, but we saw hardly any birds. So when we came home , I said, I'm going to find the birds I like in my own garden. In no time I found both the Golden Whistlers, but only got a shot of her. Then I thought , haven't taken any photos of Wrens for some time, no problem, lots of those everywhere. Then, when it was getting darker, I found the Scarlet Robins. Because it was dark, and I had to change some settings on the camera, I'm not happy with the colours. Anyway here are some:

Lovely photos Araminta as usual you set a high standard,  but I am keen on getting a decent photo of a Rose Robin as I saw a bird with this bright chest deep in cover in the rainforest one day and after scrutinizing the poor photo realized it was a Rose Robin and haven't seen one since, so this is just another goal for the future. I f you have a picture of the Pink Robin which we don't get up here in Brissy would be appreciated.

Hi Shane,I don't have any photos of a Rose Robin either, don't remember having seen one, but if I do, you will be the first to see it. I only have a photo of a Red-capped Robin, taken from a long distance. But I'll show it to you anyway, I think, unless I get a better one This will have to do.

Wish I had the bird life you have around here.  And the accessibility.  You take wonderful pics, always showing the birds to their best advantage.  And these are top pics too.

Great shots as usual Mary-Louise.

A year or so ago while doing some volunteer work with Greening Australia, we had the great luck of seeing a baby Rose Robin hatch. We noticed the small cup nest with 3 eggs in at about chest height when we went in to work on the site at a place called Gold's Scrub here near Brissie. when we came back to the cars for a break at lunch time, while trying not to scare off the mother, it was just too tempting not to go and check it out, at which point I noticed the tiniest little baby bird in it.

While there was some debate about the exact species, as no-one got a good look or a quality picture, the consensus afterward was that it was a rose robin. I have some pictures of the nest and eggs, and maybe some of the chick. If I remember, I'll post them when I get home.

Cheers

I had to laugh about your comment about going on a bird watching trip only to think "I can see more in my own backyard".  A few years ago we went on such a trip to the Otways only to say the same thing and also to be rewarded with a superb fairy wren nest just outside our laundry door.  I even seen the fledgling emerge from the nest, something I will never forget. Thankyou Araminta, on your great birding moments.
