Could someone please help with this ID. It is definately a cuckoo of some sort, my best guess is a juvenile Fan-tailed Cuckoo. Sorry about the photo quality, it was taken at my place in the northern rivers NSW. Thanks . Ray

Hi Ray, did your bird look like this? Unfortunately this one is dead, but it is a juvenile Fan-tailed Cuckoo.

The fantailed cuckoo I have seen has a yellow ring around the eye.
Yes Roger, the juvenile that got killed by flying into my window didn't have a yellow ring around the eye. Might only get that when they adults?

Thanks everyone, I'll go with Fan-tailed and I think the yellow eye may be an adult thing. It definately looked like you'r bird Araminta, with the flecked rather than browny coloured breast. Ray
