I found this feather in my yard today and can't imagine what bird it comes from. It is as tapered in reality as it looks in the pic. A bit shorter than my thumb. Any ideas, anyone?

Hehehe. Actually, it tugs at a memory at the back of my mind, but I have no idea what it is. I may have seen something like this before, but where, when? I wonder what purpose a feather this shape would serve?

Crested Pigeon's crest feather perhaps?
Of course! It would be one of the feathers from the crest itself, wouldn't it? That would explain the shape. Many thanks Windhover. I had a closer look at some pics of crested pigeons, and I do believe you are right, and the mystery is solved. Poor bird must have hit its head, they are such jumpy birds.
