Thanks qyn55. This was a defining moment for me as I had acquired a 150mm Macro lens and was into photography of insects and flowers mainly, and had gone for a walk one day at Minnippi Parklands in Brisbane to photograph macro subjects. Then I saw these little birds flitting around in the late afternoon light which blew me away when I saw them through the lens, so with all the aplomb of an elephant in a china shop I tried to sneak up on them and thanks to their curiosity allowed me to get a series of photos of males and females which as a result, simply got me into bird photography. This is why I chose this avatar because of its significance of a day I will never forget. I took this photo in the beginning of November 2011 at 5.09pm. I have used this photo for birthday cards and to cheer people up and it seems to work. Any way here is another from that day.
It's a shame we can only see the avatars so small, once we should all post them in large. Then we could see them better.
Here is mine: I would love to see your avatar as a photo.

the avatar was cropped from this

Thanks Peter, great choice of photo.
It would be so nice to see other avatars, but no responses yet.

Mine is my dog so I doubt you need to see her in a larger size.

it would be good to see me photos that birthed your avatars
Peter
Hi M-L, this was a different bird taken down the other end of the plant on the same day.
Nice photos all, pity our avatars weren't a bit bigger as these are wonderful shots. Here is mine as well.

Shane
What a beautiful shot of a gorgeous bird, Shane. Did you take that yourself because I was wondering what time of year it was taken?

Taken in the Botanic Gardens in Sydney. I chose this pic as an avatar, taken by a close friend
as I love cheeky cockatoos. They never showed any aggression but liked landing on people!
Of course this freaked out some people but the tourists mostly loved it.

That must have hurt and left some marks on your head David?
