Pigeon arrived at our house

The pigeon in my attachment arrived three days ago and mostly sits on top of the air conditioning unit on the patio. It eats and drinks out of seed and water facilities i have provided for mostly top notch pigeons out in the yard. We tried to chase it away and it flies well but comes back to us on top of the a/c unit. Occassionally it makes a pigeon sound. I``m told it`s not a racing pigeon. I noticed that feathers on it`s head are standing up, maybe it`s been hit by something.

At our age we are unable to catch it and take it to a vet or RSPCA. There`s probably not much i can do but anyway i thought i`d mention it.

hello

it is many years since I bred 'fancy pigeons' - the early 1980s actually

it does not appear to be a homing or racing pigeon, usually the cere (flesh surrounding the nostrils above the beak) is very obvious in these breeds, you should also see 1 or more rings on a racing pigeons legs

it appears to be a crossbred 'fancy pigeon'

this website gives a breed list that you might like to look at - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fancy_pigeon#Major_breed_families_of_fancy_pigeon

the upturned feathers (crest) on the back of the head are common on a number of breeds - Nun, Archangel, Turbit

Thank You. It`s still sitting on top of the airconditioning unit. I suspect he may have sight problem. Anyway as we can`t catch it we`ll have to wait until it drops unfortunately.

I guess only time will tell.  He could have been aviary bred and if so, ensuring he has ready access to food and water will be about all you can do.  I do hope he'll be OK.  Please keep us updated.

I have contacted RSPCA and they said if we can catch the pigeon they will come and collect it. So, here`s hoping.
