A guessing game for you

I thought it might be a challenge to see who can identify this little specimen.smiley

I am going to open a can of worms here too, and ask  (on behalf of several other members too) why when you click on the image to bring up the original, it is rich and clear, but when you view it in the post it is hazy and flat and grey?

It is worse when you repost from a host site as it cannot be opened to improve it.

Holly have you any thoughts?

Yes I've noticed the washed out look when I attach photos too.

I know what this one is, I'll let others have a guess wink

nice pic BTW.

Cheers, Owen.

The washed out look is, as I have mentioned before several times, because this style is applied to the images:

opacity: 0.9;

It's not a native, I no that ,but I have no idea about photos posted that turn out grey , flat and hazy. But my feather friends will teach me I hope, I am just learning to type and use a I pad. My kids are helping me to. So give me time ,plenty of time...

Sorry darlingnightowl.... but it is a native ...  smiley  It is the female version ( I am pretty sure it is not a juv) of a very pretty little bird with striking colours ...... sorry I thought it would be fun for some of us.... the females and juvs can be sooo confusing ... he he

Soakes... it cant be that as it is not like that on my screen ... that is if you mean something I have done in editing. It is not even like that when it pops up after opening, or is that something done in the website do you mean?

Hi birdie,

I'm not sure where it comes from, but this is what firebug tells me when I inspect the img tag:

Inherited from div.section#content .section {    opacity: 0.9;} However, it doesn't look washed out for me in Firefox on a Mac. - soakes

Don't be sorry, I am having fun with this ,I don't like to use any books to ID birds until I have no idea like now.

Soakes I use Firefox to but not a mac. If I compare it to my original or the opo out version on here it is definitely greyish. I have asked Holly and will wait for her to get back to me. I am sure she has bigger things to worry about  smiley it would be nice if it didn'thappen though.

Is it a female golden whistler?

What about a juvenile plum-headed finch, birdie?

Amateur

My guess would be a female mistletoebird

No sorry to Soakes and Woko and well done Amateur .... if you have seen one then it is not so hard lol ....  I was surrounded by heaps of them and if there were any males there then they didnt have their colours showing.

I'll find another shot now that has the giveaway red under the tail .

Thansk for playing people and if anyone else feels like doing one it is fun I think smiley

Yeah, nor brainer for female Mistletoebird. The bill is a dead giveaway.

I would think a Female Mistletoe bird as well.

What interested me was the berries she was eating were bluey purple. The last time I picture one eating they were red.... does mistletoe berry change colour as it ripens??

Good one Adrienne, I knew it wasn't a female Golden Whistler, I took a photo of one yesterday, their beak looks different.

As for the grey wash, I noticed and commented on it from the start. I think the old Flickr thing worked better.

Did I say juvenile plum-headed finch? Silly me. Clearly a female mistletoe bird!

I think they eat more than just mistletoe berries, birdie. My friend who hasn't a native plant for kilometres sees mistletoe birds eating berries on his exotic vine.

Oh OK Woko I was led to believe by someone on here I think that they only ate that.
