The other day we went for a walk in Royal Botanic gardens. We stopped at the pond to rest and were lucky to observe this drama.
At first it looked like a mating dance. It seemed a bit routh, but this heart-shape formation, well you know.. I'm not an expert on swan behavior :)
Soon we saw what was really going on. Don't know was it a girl or teritory that caused the conflict, but it was impresive and a bit scary. Big wings flapping, watter splashing. These birs got so much power...
Finally the stronger shows who's the man around here.
good capture
an episode that you will remember

Good observation and photos Laurius, I can remember reading a Readers Digest book on Australia's Dangerous animals and creatures years ago and they stated that a Swan was capable of breaking a persons leg with its wings. Something to do with the elbow type of joint being very hard.

Brisbane southside.
Thank you everyone. Next time I am around swans, I will be more cautious :)
Laurius
That is just fantastic Laurius. After seeing your photos, I witnessed a similar display yesterday. Two males with the female watching from very close to them. They started by swimming together beside each other, then formed the "heart shape" with their heads. It never came to a fight though, one of them gave up and left. While the obvious victor simply took off with girl.
Thanks for the great photos.
