I, like many other people used to think Pine trees were "good for nothing" trees. I have changed my mind on that. I have observed my huge, and I mean huge pine tree for weeks now, and there are countless birds living in it.Birds live in there like in a Highrise House. I will start from the top. The top floor is occupied by one Lewin's Honeyeater, who defends it against the Bronzewings one story down. Next one down belongs to a Grey- shrike Thrush, and the lower part belongs to a pair of Brown Thornbills. For a few weeks a pair of Silvereyes drops in, otherwise the residents are long term. I will post photos of them and their way of living in that tree over the next days. First up the Lewin's Honeyeater, the one in the top floor, and hardest to take photos of. I had no idea they would eat anything in a Pine tree. Here is the evidence:

I too have found pine trees usually devoid of bird life. Glad this little bird likes his tree though.

I can tell you this Lewin's is in charge of the top floor of that tree. Today he was singing non-stop to attrackt a partner. I hope he will find one!!!!

I have a lot of Lewins at my place and I can tell you they eat a lot of insects. They will also eat seeds. Ray
