Mid afternoon I went outside and almost immediately I realised there was quite a commotion going on. Currawongs, Kookaburras, blackbirds and many other birds (too many to try to identify them) were all making a lot of noise. It wasn't about to rain, it was cloudy with a bit of sunshine.
I wonder what it is that makes all the birds start to chorus together like that? Currawongs were flitting from tree to tree, as were the kookaburras and blackbirds. I would have loved to know what they were all calling about.
Possibly some type of predator in the vicinity such as a snake or BoP?
It was a widespread call so doubt a snake would have caused it. It's very cold here anyway so the snakes would be in hibernation. But a BoP is a possibility. Guess I should learn to look up a lot more often - beyond the trees I mean.

I've also seen & heard birds flock around koalas & Boobook Owls.New Holland Honeyeaters will flock together & make a racket as part of their socialising behaviour.
I've seen Noisy Miners, Butcherbirds, Currawongs and Crows all make a racket around a ringtail possum they have found in a tree at my place. As Woko says, they will also start alarm calls around Boobooks.
