I am not 100% sure M-L but the Blue-billed Duck usually has the tail submersed in the water like yours does and the Freckled Duck has a slightly pointy head and the BB Duck has a more rounded shape like yours. I hope I am wrong because if it is a Freckled Duck than that is certainly a good find. Here is a photo of a Female BB Duck taken recently.
Thanks Shane, I think my duck looks a lot like yours, the tail is mostly under water.I do think it is "just " a BB duck. Would have been nice to be a freckled duck though. I will kkeep on looking, I read on some bird watcher's list, there are some on a lake close to me in Berwick (Vic).
M-L I wouldn't discard the idea that it is a Freckled Duck because apart from what I said there still are some differences between my photos and yours, so maybe someone here can give you a positive ID and I hope i am wrong.
This is a captive Freckled Duck I saw at the Hunter Wetlands Centre for comparison. I'd say the duck you saw is a Blue-billed, it's tail sits alot lower in the water than this ones does. I've seen wild Freckled Ducks before but never a Blue-billed. Thanks for sharing.
You are one smart guy, I can only repeat that again and again. Yes, it is at Serendip. Thanks for confirming the ID.
I will now wait to find out where exactly this friend has seen and taken photos of a Freckled Duck. He said on one of those lakes in an Estate in Berwick. (him and his wife went on a photo shoot with a private guide in PNG. Some people are lucky?)
It could be a female " Blue-billed Duck" ????? Looking at the same bird from a different angle.

Female Blue-billed Duck M-L. Freckled Ducks are larger and have more of a scoop-shaped bill.
That's the tame female from Serendip Sanctuary isn't it?? I can tell from the water.
Cheers, Owen.

I have a photo of this girl from Serendip almost identical to yours with the water exactly the same colour.
See it's pretty similar, probably the same bird.
Cheers, Owen.
