I had a hunch that we might have some gliders on our property due to location and flora and to my delight last night I heard(they make such loud noises) and then saw three Yellow-bellied gliders! ;0)
I found it hard to sleep last night after seeing my first owl and then 3 YBG.
YEAH! They are just SOOOO cute! I often hear and sometimes get to see them in Mitchell Park. Which reminds me, it's about time I revisited for some spotlighting there. They make this horrible gurgling sort of sound that is emitted from my experience when they glide from tree to tree. Sometimes you can get quite close to them!
Congratulations on getting such a stunning marsupial at your place!
What owl did you see?
Thanks Akos, I think it was a barn owl? He was in next doors property ( very close to our fence line)
Jackie ;0)
P.S I put the owl post in sightings.
How good is that Jackie. I haven't seen one of those around, they do look quite large. We now have some Sugar Gliders . I'm very happy that they made their way to our property, the man down the road from us hates them, he even had trees cut down to get rid of them. (yep, there are lots of idiots on this planet) I found some dead ones in my garden. Those little ones are easy to find, they shred the brk of the trees, and you find the shavings all around the trees.
I have a question for Akos, when you go spotlighting, what kind of spotlight do you have? It needs to be strong, but not too heavy.
M-L
It's fantastic M-L.
I know your question was for Akos but just for interest sake I have a lightforce walkabout hand held with its own battery and comes with red filter. I think I paid about $300.00?? Here is the link

That's a great torch Jackie. A couple of my friends have it. I have a Maglite, something that cops used to use. The really long, heavy things.
Yes they are rather good, I used to use a Maglite also, until my 4x4 was stolen
(it was in it)
Well done you are on a roll , what is next ? Jackie.

See it! Hear it!
Mid-North Coast NSW
Awesome, Jackie, how exciting!
What city/area are you in roughly, (if you don't mind me asking)?
As for spotlighting torches, I have used my LED bike lights (http://www.ayup-lights.com) for spotlighting in the past, but they are quite bright and I tried not to leave them on the animals too long. The red filter sounds like a good idea too.
Cheers

Hi Tim, yes very awesome indeed!! I am in the Hawkesbury area, South Maroota NSW.
I would never have thought to use LED bike lights, very resourceful![wink wink](https://www.birdsinbackyards.net/sites/all/libraries/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/wink_smile.gif)
Jackie
Thanks Darin, who knows but as the weather warms up I can only imagine that there will be more activity (both night & day) I feel like a kid in a candy shop LOL![smiley smiley](https://www.birdsinbackyards.net/sites/all/libraries/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/regular_smile.gif)
Sensational, Jackie. With all the doom & gloom about the wrecking of Australia's environment it does my spirits a power of good to hear that there are people like you & others on this forum who take such delight in our wildlife & its protection.
That is good to hear Woko!!![wink wink](https://www.birdsinbackyards.net/sites/all/libraries/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/wink_smile.gif)
