I I revisited this little fellow down by the river and he was very cooperative and allowed me to drive right next to him and park, then slowly get out of the car on the far side to him and move around closer to him. I was trying to get a full frame shot of him as they are very photogenic. I was really happy that he sat and posed, allowing me to experiment with exposures etc
good pic Birdie
did you pay him modelling fees?
Peter
Well done birdie. Don't you just love it when they're cooperative like that? Love being able to see the individual feathers in the black. Not always easy to get the exposure right for that.

Nice Adrienne, very good of him to sit there for you.
I should take some fish next time Peter LOL Then he would probably turn and smile at me Yes Kathie it was good to be able to have the chance to manually bracket and change some settings . I am so impressed ith my new camera and its ability to handle stuff that my old one couldn't, even if I am using theh same crap lenses .
Actually guys..... I think he likes me

So, what camera have you got? And I don't think your lens is crap.

I only had the EOS 1000D before Kathy and the basic kit lenses EF 75-300 is what I mostly use for birding. It is an ordinary lens believe me. But I had an accident with my camera and got a new insurance replacement which I upgraded to the 600D. It is much better and has given me a new interest. I think because of the larger sensor and superior AF and metering systems it is just doing much more justice to my subjects. I am praying for an L lens to drop out of the heavens one day but I may be waiting for a while. Finances prevent me from just going out and getting what I want but more importantly illness prevented me for the last year from getting out at all. So now I am able to go out and see more birds in different situations it is so good I am still unable to work so I may aswell enjoy the experience !

Absolutely. Sorry to hear you've been ill but good to hear you're improving and can get out to do some birding. I have a Nikon D90 and 70-300mm lens which I use all the time too for bird shots. Would love to get a 400 but, like you, finances dictate what I can or can't do. I keep hoping for the extra special to show up too, but even if it did right now, I'd not be able to afford it. Other bills to pay plus I'm paying off a surprise for my husband's 60th which is at the end of this year. The surprise will be worth it though.

so long as he doesn't read BIBY Forums
Peter
Nah, he doesn't hang around here although I won't share what the surprise is anyway in case Google searches bring it up

Yes indeed Kathie...birding and photography have been my salvation over the last year or so. I love being able to lose myself in the surrounds and enjoy the beauty of what is around us every day. Lucky for me I have a friend who owns a 70-300L and I can borrow it during the week whenever i want, it is good to see what a difference it makes to the quality. I was also lucky to get 2X converter from Cathnshane but I find the manual focus and the extra focal length really challenging to say the least!
