Kookaburra?

I live on the NSW south coast. Anyway, I came home from work a couple of weeks ago and found this beauty sat outside our unit block. Luckily I managed to get a couple of quick shots before he/she flew off (albeit on a compact camera), but I'm not sure what the bird is.

I've a suspicion it's a Kookaburra, but what puts me off is that when I was looking at it with the naked eye it's beak didn't seem as pronounced. In fact my first impression when seeing it when I pulled up made me think it was some kind of Owl. Of course looking at the photos now it seems my eyes may have been playing tricks on me. So if somebody could put me out of my misery.

And then I go to the home page of this site and there is a photo of a Tawny Frogmouth that looks pretty similar!

Hi bazzrose, yes definitely a Tawny Frogmouth. Kooks are not nocturnal. You are lucky to see himwink

Thanks Jackie.

Can't believe I've been searching online for what it could've been, ask the question on here and then 10 seconds later see a photo as the "random bird of the week!"

They are really cool nocturnal birds, the frogmouths.
