We have P-H Rosellas nesting in the box at the end of the verandah, last year they raised four chicks which was great! This year they produced SIX eggs (we were most surprised) but only one has hatched, that was over a week ago. I feel that sadly the other eggs will not now hatch, but wonder why - guess we'll never find out. The hatchling looks healthy, lifting his head up now and moving around. One curious thing is that when the male arrives to take her out for a feed there is often another one with him and they all fly off together - we wonder if it could be a bird from last year's brood? Does anyone know if this happens?
Wow they are some really interesting observations Maeve! I admit I don't know too much about them but I wouldn't be surprised if it is a young bird that is still with them.
Hope the little one continues to thrive.
How exciting! Sorry, can't help with the possible family group issue though.
Cheers
