Bowerbirds build each year around this house in the Southern Highlands. There are numerous females to what appears to be a lone male. He has now improved his bower of blue with a rather large blue lid from a peanut butter jar and some rather lovely yellow flowers. sue

Great pics Sue. Arnt they beautiful birds! Their eyes are amazing. I first saw these fellas on a 4wd trip in Victoria not far from Dargo and was amazed as these birds came around. Their eyes went from purple to pink to blue and brown depending on which angle the sun was hitting their eye. Simply amazing. Thankfully I was able to get a few shots but not too many of the black males.
They are great shots of the nest too. Thanks for sharing Sue!
This is one of the shots i got of the female.
I love the touch of a few yellow flowers amongst the blue - what a romantic he is!

Lovely photo, Bromo. The eyes are amazing and the beak has that touch of green. The males have a lovely blue irridescence to the feathers rather than black. They are quite vocal at the moment especially the females.
Thanks to all of you for the offers to house sit but I am first in line!

Beautiful shots Sue, the nests are so lovely arent they looks like he has gone to alot of trouble to impress someone. Hope he gets lucky. They are such a lovely looking bird.
Bromo your shot is awesome too. The females are so striking, her eye is such a vibrant colour.
Superb shots
Good photos Sue, no wonder there is one male and heaps of females, this guy has got the courting game totally under control, they just can't resist by the look of your second photo. Lucky boy.
