We had an infrequent visit from some noisy miners the other day - I noticed this one with halh its upper beak missing. It seemed healthy and was eating OK. It doesn't look like a recent injury, so I guess it has learned to cope.

Thought that you might find this Currawong interesting. This is the best picture I have as it was a while ago. The bird survived for some years (probably on neighbourhood handouts) gradually losing more beak until you see almost none remans. That thin spike is the tongue. It used some intesting feeding behaviours eg turning its head sideways to scoop up food or flicking it into the air and catching it.
