I have a lonely male King Quail

I hope this 'wanted' post is ok. Sorry mods if I'm out of line.

I have a tiny little king quail that came to me from a local vet and he's quite miserable and lonely. I'd really like to find him a couple of females for company. I've rung and googled and picked brains with no luck.

Does anyone know someone who might have a couple females they'd give/sell me?

I'm in north west Brisbane, prepared to drive an hour or so to collect.

They'll have a good home here. I'm a wild life carer, also have a dozen or so jap quails for eggs so i'm very familiar with general quail welfare.

thank you, and sorry again if this is inappropriate for this forum.

How do you know he's lonely? Can he tell the difference between the other quails and himself? And my next question would be, if it's a native quail, shouldn't you release him into his native habitat when he is ready?

He doesn't look happy. Very subdued, and calling at night which makes me think he doesn't like being by himself.   Quails aren't happy by themselves, they like company of their own kind, as do most creatures.

King quail are about a sixth of the size of a jap quail; no way could I put him with them!!

I don't want to release him into the wild because I don't know his history. For all I know, he's been in captivity all his life and may have no idea of how to look after himself. I'm not prepared to take that chance. I've since found out it's better to get just one female for him, so that's   my aim.

Hmm, put a photo on facebook, hundreds of people will see it. I'm sure you will have more ideas.

Where I live king quails are not native but I have heard them at night and seen one around. I think they have established in some areas as aviary escapes.

There must be captive bird forums that can help you.

DO NOT RELEASE HIM INTO THE WILD !

As GregL said the Chinese king quail is well established but is not native and who knows what sort of deseases he could take with him!

Try the avicultural society ,bird clubs,or even your local pet shop

I really had no intention of releasing him, because of the reasons I stated earlier. I have found a female for him and they will live in an appropriate enclosure in my huge enclosed vegetable garden and do their own thing. Their environment will be as close to their natural environment as I can make it. He's a lovely little bird and is welcome to live out his life safely here.

Hi,

As far I know if you nurture them then you must keep male and female both as when they meet their new freinds I think he will forget loneliness.I have bought many lovebirds including male and female and both remains like freinds and sometime quarrel but I don't care this is part of everyone's life.
